I forgot what was my age when i started to like bers, it might start when i was born to the world. Could be that day my parents had introduced me to bear started from clothes, baby tools and toys hahaha who knows ?

Will It Happen ?

I read this article from discover channel website. I excited, off course i was, because not only i love bear much but also there was hope for me that bear can live longer in their endangared surrounding. Here this article that i read about.

I've totally underestimated polar bears. For a couple of years now I've been saying that polar bears are doomed; that no matter what we do today, the titanic momentum of the global warming freight train is already sufficient to melt the Arctic sea ice and end the polar bear way of life. But happily, these bruins may be far more adaptable then I expected, according to a release today from the American Museum of Natural History about new research published journal Polar Biology.

Here's the gist: Earlier spring thaws in Hudson Bay are a boon to nesting snow geese, which in turn are producing loads of eggs. Polar bears are on a culinary collision course with this earlier, land-based and increasing food supply -- which is ironically triggered in part by global warming. It's sure a wild and crazy planet! When bears switch to the tundra in some areas, they may enter the nesting grounds of snow geese. Goose eggs and developing embryos are a highly nutritious source of food to opportunistic foragers. Although geese populations were in decline in the early 1900s, the population rebounded and expanded. There are now too many geese for the Arctic to support in the summer, mainly because their over-wintering habitat has increased to cover the northern plains, where they eat waste corn and forage in rice fields.

The bottom line is that it's about, which is controlled by climate.

Current trends indicate that the arrival of polar bears will overlap the mean hatching period in 3.6 years, and egg consumption could become a routine, reliable option. At this point, a bear would need to consume the eggs of 43 nests to replace the energy gained from the average day of hunting seals. But within a decade, because timing changes would put bears in contact with even more nests with younger embryos (younger embryos are more nutritious), a bear would only need to consume the eggs of 34 nests to get the same amount of energy....

...(Robert) Rockwell and his graduate student, Linda Gormezano, calculated that the rate of change in ice breakup is, on average, 0.72 days earlier each year, and that hatching time is also moving forward by 0.16 days each year. Current trends indicate that the arrival of polar bears will overlap the mean hatching period in 3.6 years, and egg consumption could become a routine, reliable option. At this point, a bear would need to consume the eggs of 43 nests to replace the energy gained from the average day of hunting seals.

In fact, the bears are already at the eggs...

“Over 40 years, six sub adult male bears were seen among snow goose nests, and four of them were sighted after the year 2000,” says Rockwell, a research associate in Ornithology at the American Museum of Natural History and a Professor of Biology at City College at City University of New York. “I’ve seen a sub adult male eat eider duck eggs whole or press its nose against the shell, break it, and eat the contents. This is similar to a different research group’s observations of polar bears eating Barnacle Goose eggs on Svalbard, an island near Norway.”

Look ... is about bear again ... , fiction bear who always wear red short shirt. Like to eat honey until he can't stand to walk even stand because his stomach too full. Sometimes Pooh seems like gloomy bear but really he has nice and helpful heart. With his 3 friends are Eeyore a donkey, Piglet a rabbit and Tigger a tiger always together to cheer up Christopher Robin's life who is a boy lives near Pooh & Friends.

In my room there is a sticker wall picture Pooh & Friends which circle all over my wall-room even my mom said looks like a kid play room because of it. Pooh piggy bank, sometimes i filled in with small coins. Small Eeyore bag, of course i never use that anymore, i do not want people stare at me when i bring that donkey. Old case pencils & pens which remain me when i was a student. Small Pooh phone charm had accompanied me since long. Water drink bottle, i still bring that to the office. Small hair accessories which i keep even i never wear that anymore.

There are some fun facts of Pooh & Friends that i just know shortly (ref. nypl.org & enterpriseportal.com) :

The curious name of Winnie-the-pooh come from Christopher Robin, from a combination of the names of a real bear and a pet swan. During the 1920s there was a black bear named "Winnie" in the London Zoo who had been the mascot for the Winnipeg regiment of the Canadian army. "Pooh" was the name of a swan in When We Were Very Young.

Pooh was purchased at Harrod's department store in London and given by A.A. Milne to his son Christopher Robin on his first birthday, August 21, 1921.

He was called Edward (proper form of Teddy) Bear at the time.

The rest of the toys were received as gifts by Christopher Robin between 1920 and 1928.

Not only Christopher Robin played with the toys; so, apparently, did the family dog, which may have contributed to their well-worn appearance.

The baby kangaroo stuffed animal (named Roo) was lost in an apple orchard during the 1930s.

Eeyore was x-mas present to Christopher Milne-The stuffed animal's neck had lost its stiffening over time taking on morose appearance, which served as inspiration of AA Milne's Character.

Winnie-the-Pooh had adventures with Piglet, Eeyore, Kanga, Roo, Owl, Rabbit, and Tigger in the 100 Aker (Acre) Wood (based on the Ashdown Forest in southern England, located near the Milne family home).

Owl and Rabbit were brought to life to join Pooh and pals Eeyore, Piglet, Kanga Roo, and Tigger, by Milne and illustrator Ernest H. Shepard.

The stuffed animals range in height from 25" (Eeyore, the biggest) to 4 1/2" (Piglet, the smallest).

Pooh & Friends had already accompanied world since long become legend as other disney characters as mickey mouse and disney princess. And i am sure my kid even grand children will still remain them, because they are ever lasting characters.

Fact of Polar Bears

With the recent new of global warning, and the statements that the polar bear is the first animal to become endangered because of global warming many people are wondering how many polar bears are there? That is a question that the answer is still being researched.

How many polar bears are there?

No one really knows how many polar bears there are because they are hard to count, and at times hard to find. Researches estimate that there are between 22 000 and 40 000 polar bears in the world. Close to half of the polar bear population lives in Canada.

Where else to polar bears live?
With majority of the polar bear population living in northern Canada, then where does the rest of the population of polar bears live? Most polar bears inhabit the Arctic and around the North Pole (not including polar bears that are captive). The countries that encompass the Arctic include Canada, Russia, Norway, Denmark (Greenland) and Alaska (United States).

Polar bears thrive in these Arctic conditions because this is where their food sources are, and their bodies are made to handle the harsh Arctic conditions, even the winter one. Polar bears spend a great deal of their time in the Arctic Ocean hunting and searching for food.

Polar Bears are found throughout the arctic region, often covering hundreds of miles in their range. They have heavy white fur which camouflage them against the white landscape in which they live in.

In the winter months they walk on the ice and look for seals and in the summer months they wait on the shore for them. Polar bears know how to use the climate and the land conditions to their benefit when hunting for seals. They will walk on an ice floe (a sheet of floating ice) and look for hole or cracks in the ice.

Since seals have to breathe at some time they wait there for a seal to come up for breath. There are also other areas of the Arctic Ocean that do not freeze, polynyas, these are also great areas for the polar bear to find its favorite food, seals.

Temperatures in the Arctic
The temperatures that the polar bears have to endure in the winter can range from -40°F (-40°C) to as cold as -90°F (-90°C). The summer months can be much warmer for the polar bears with temperatures reaching to 77°F (25°C).

Polar bears have to be able to handle 100° difference in temperature between the seasons. Polar bear habitat, polar bear description affects of global warming and climate change on the polar bear.

How they look?

Despite their size, they are extremely fast runners and wide-ranging travellers. They are also expert swimmers, with their thick layer of fur and fat insulating them against the extreme cold of their climate. They have hairy soles on their broad feet to protect them and insulate them from the cold, as well as help them move across the snow swiftly.

Their diet consists of fish, seal, caribou, birds, seaweed, grass and an occasional whale which strayed too far from its course. Polar Bears are usually shy but they are known to be dangerous when attacked or confronted. They give birth to one to four cubs at a time in the winter and the cubs stay with their mother for up to three years.Polar Bears are endangered due to the man's excessive hunting for their priceless hide, tendons, meat, fat and flesh.

Their numbers dwindled from several hundred thousands to a few hundred in a few years time. In efforts to protect Polar Bears, an international agreement was set up in 1973 whereby only traditional weapons were allowed to be used in the hunting of the Polar Bears.

This posting happen just because i really fond to bears, one of kind bears i fond is Polar Bears, as i know global warming today merely feel near. I can feel how different the weather in my country specially in Jakarta (my city). I always think how Polar Bears will do later, how they will live later and how they survive to keep their descentor. Even today, i just heard that US government had protect them because they are endangared not only because of the global warming, but also because of the hunter who haunted them year by year to take their fur. How could that happen human take fur from animal just to make clothes, shoes and bags .... Oh God ..., is really sadden.
